IND vs ENG: Has ongoing series set record for most debutants in a test series for India?

Devdutt Padikkal became fifth Indian player to make test debut in this series.
Team India suffered a few major setbacks at the beginning of the five-match test series against England. Star batter Virat Kohli skipped the entire series due to personal reasons. KL Rahul got injured and was out of the entire series after the first test. Ravindra Jadeja was also injured and missed the second test. The pacers were rotated to manage the workload.
The Indian team management grabbed the opportunity with both hands and unleashed the young firepower against England. Five players have made their debut in the ongoing Anthony de Mello Trophy starting with Rajat Patidar in the second test in Visakhapatnam. Left-hand batter Devdutt Padikkal became fifth player to make his India debut in just one series.
India equals own record
Along with Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, Akash Deep and Devdutt Padikkal also made their test debuts. Padikkal became the 314th player for India in test cricket. This is the second occasion when India have played in a series with five different players debuting. Before the ongoing test series, India had five debutants in their historic test series win against Australia in 2020-21.
Opener Shubman Gill, all-rounder Washington Sundar, pacers Mohammed Siraj, Navdeep Saini and T. Natarajan made their debuts in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21. India won a historic test at the Gabba and completed their second consecutive test series victory in Australia. India won their first test series in Australia in 2018-19 when they edged the hosts 2-1.
Shubman Gill got his first test cap at the MCG in Melbourne in the second test match. Mohammed Siraj and Navdeep Saini got their first test caps in the third test played at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Meanwhile, T. Natarajan and Washington Sundar earned their test cap at the Gabba where India got their historic test win. Team India are currently 3-1 ahead in the five-match series.
