IND vs ENG: Shreyas Iyer to miss last 3 tests with back and groin injury - Reports

Shreyas Iyer scored 104 runs in four innings in the ongoing IND vs ENG test series.
Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer has complained of a stiff back yet again. Iyer is likely to miss the final three test matches of the ongoing test series against England. India are already dealing with injuries and a few star players missed the first two test matches. Shreyas Iyer has reportedly complained about a stiff back and groin pain ahead of the squad selection for the final three matches against England.
The series is currently leveled 1-1 and both teams will be playing the next test at Saurashtra Cricket Stadium in Rajkot. Iyer’s participation looks in danger as India’s middle-order batter is currently in Mumbai. The Right hand batter had a poor series against England and has managed to score just 104 runs in four innings he batted. His highest score is 35, which came in the Hyderabad test.
Iyer will head to NCA
According to reports from Indian Express, Shreyas Iyer’s kit was sent to Mumbai while the entire team was heading to Rajkot from Visakhapatnam for the third test. The third test will begin on 15th February. As reported, Shreyas Iyer will be sent to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Shreyas Iyer suffered a back injury in 2023 as well and he had to miss the entire season of the IPL 2023 and many more games.
As quoted by Indian Express, A source has informed, “Iyer has informed the Indian team management and the medical staff that his back gets stiff after playing more than 30 balls and he feels pain in his groin while playing forward defence. Post surgery, he is facing this issue for the first time so he has been advised to rest for a few weeks. He will head to NCA later.”
Star Indian batter Virat Kohli’s participation is still in doubt as the is likely to skip the third test as well. Virat pulled out of the first two matches due to personal reasons. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja might be back in the Indian squad for the next match. Selectors will have to look at the possible replacement of Shreyas Iyer in the squad for final three test matches. The fourth test will be played in Ranchi while Dharamshala will host the fifth test.
