Shubman Gill hammered 104 in second innings, his first test century since March 2023.

Shubman Gill gave an update on his finger injury which he had sustained while fielding on day 2 of the second test between India and England in Vizag. India won the second test by 106 runs to level the five-match test series 1-1.

Gill made a century in the second innings to help India set England a target of 399 runs, with the hosts looking for a series-leveling triumph after losing the opener in Hyderabad. Gill scored 104 off 147 to overcome a shaky period that raised doubts about his place in the Test team.

The development was confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) who shared that Gill had sustained an injury on his index finger while fielding and consequently won’t be taking the field.

India were already weakened for the upcoming match, with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and batter KL Rahul out due to injuries. Jadeja injured his hamstring when taking a fast single in the first test, while Rahul complained of soreness in his right quadriceps.
