Shubman Gill will not take field on day four of the second test in Visakhapatnam.

Indian opener Shubman Gill has been ruled out of the action on day four of the ongoing second test against England. In another injury scare for India, Shubman Gill injured his right index finger on day two of the second test match at the Dr. YSR ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. Team India have already suffered a few major setbacks as KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja are out of the action due to injuries and Virat Kohli opted out due to personal reasons.

Right-hand batter Shubman Gill smashed his third test ton on day three in Visakhapatnam. He was out of touch for a while in test cricket and his place was also questioned by critics. Shubman Gill was not able to cross the 50-run mark since he moved himself down to number 3 after the ICC World Test Championship final 2023 against Australia at The Oval, London.

Shubman Gill injured his finger

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released an official update about Shubman Gill and posted on X (formerly Twitter,) “Shubman Gill hurt his right index finger while fielding on Day 2. He won’t be taking the field today.” Shubman Gill scored 104 runs off 147 deliveries in the second innings and helped India post a mammoth target for England in the second test.

Shubman Gill was also given an ultimatum by Indian team management after his lean patch in test cricket at number 3. According to various media reports, Gill was given an ultimatum to perform in the Vishakapatnam test or else go back to Ranji Trophy and spend some time in the Indian Domestic Cricket. Gill also informed one of his family members about coming to Mohali and taking part in Punjab’s important clash against Gujarat.

India have once again taken a commanding position in the second test on first session of the fourth day. Indian bowlers picked three English wickets in the first hour of day four. Rehan Ahmed (23), Ollie Pope (23), and Joe Root (16) departed back to the pavilion. India put a huge target of 399 runs for England in the ongoing second test. India need a win in Visakhapatnam to bounce back in the five-match test series. England currently lead the series 1-0.
