Shubman Gill hit his third test century in the ongoing second test against England in Vishakapatnam.

After facing severe backlash due to persistent failures at number 3, Shubman Gill finally smashed a classy hundred. Gill’s innings came as a response to his critics questioning his place in the test squad. Right-hand batter Shubman Gill scored 104 runs in 147 balls with 11 fours and two sixes against England in the second innings of the second test at Dr. YSR ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

Now a news report from Indian Express has claimed that Shubman Gill was given an ultimatum before the second test in Visakhapatnam began. Gill was dismissed on a two-ball duck in the second innings of the Hyderabad test. Gill was asked to play in the Ranji Trophy if he had failed to perform in the second test. Everyone lauded Gill’s approach in the second innings of the second test.

Shubman Gill was asked to play Ranji Trophy

According to reports from Indian Express, Shubman Gill would have travelled back to home and play for Punjab against Gujarat in Punjab’s next Ranji Trophy 2023-24 match at IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali which will start on 9th February. It was likely that Shubman Gill would have been dropped for the final three test matches of the ongoing series. According to same reports, Shubman Gill also had informed his family about the same before the start of the second test.

According to the same media reports, 24-year-old Shubman Gill told one of his family members, “I will go and play the Ranji Trophy match against Gujarat in Mohali.” In the ongoing test against England, Shubman Gill completed his ton with a single off Shoaib Bashir. He then celebrated his century in a big manner. His innings helped India put a huge target of 399 for England in the second test.

At the end of day three, England scored 67 with loss of one wicket in their pursuit of chasing a humongous target of 399. Opener Ben Duckett (28) was dismissed by off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Duckett was caught by KS Bharat who jumped forward at short leg to take a wonderful catch. Zack Crawley (29) and Rehan Ahmed (9) are unbeaten at the end of the final session of play on day three. England need 332 more runs to win their second game of the five-match test series.
