Varun Chakravarthy made his ODI debut in the second ODI against England in Cuttack.
Less than 24 hours after sneaking into India’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad, Varun Chakravarthy is missing the third ODI against England.
India have an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The third and last IND vs ENG ODI kicked off on Wednesday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, with England skipper Jos Buttler winning the toss and electing to bowl first.
India captain Rohit Sharma announced three changes to the line-up that played the second ODI in Cuttack. Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav and Arshdeep Singh replaced Mohammed Shami, Ravindra Jadeja and Chakravarthy in Ahmedabad.
This is the first game of the series for Sundar and Arshdeep. Kuldeep played in the first ODI in Nagpur and was rested from the second ODI, with Chakravarthy playing his maiden ODI.
Why Varun Chakravarthy isn’t playing in 3rd ODI in Ahmedabad?
While Shami and Jadeja are rested, Rohit said at the toss that Chakravarthy suffered soreness in his calf after his debut ODI in Cuttack. On his ODI debut, Chakravarthy managed figures of 1/54. He took the wicket of Phil Salt in his second over.
On Tuesday, Chakravarthy was included in India’s squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy. He replaced Yashasvi Jaiswal in the provisional squad.
