Varun Chakravarthy bagged the Man of the Series award in the T20I series.

Spinner Varun Chakravarthy has been handed his maiden call-up to the ODI squad as he’s been added to India’s squad for the upcoming ODI series against England.

The selectors have rewarded Chakravarthy with a first-ever ODI call-up following his sensational show in T20Is in recent months.

This call-up means that the selectors and team management are seriously considering him for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Chakravarthy was not named in the 15-man squad for the Champions Trophy but that is the provisional squad and it could be modified until February 11 without ICC’s approval.

Varun Chakravarthy is in line to make ODI debut vs England

The IND vs ENG ODI series will run from February 6 to 12. Hence, Chakravarthy might get to make his ODI debut in the first or second ODI.

Earlier, the likes of Dinesh Karthik and Ravi Ashwin championed Chakravarthy’s name for the Champions Trophy amid his thunderous success in the T20Is.

Chakravarthy returned to the T20I team last year and has been on a roll, being a huge contributor to India’s last three T20I series wins. In 12 T20Is, he’s snapped 31 wickets at a terrific average of only 11.25 and a strike rate of just 8.9, while maintaining a tidy economy rate of 7.58. He’s taken two five-wicket hauls.

Chakravarthy was named the Man of the Series after India’s 4-1 T20I series win over England where he picked up 14 wickets at an average of 9.85.

India’s updated squad for ODI series against England: Rohit Sharma (C), Ꮪhubman Gill (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (WK), Rishabh Pant (WK), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohd. Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy.
