The IND vs NZ 1st T20I took place at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium on January 21.

Indian Cricket Team outplayed New Zealand Cricket Team by 48 runs in the first T20I to gain a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. After being asked to bat first, the Suryakumar Yadav & Co. piled a gigantic total of 238/7 in the first innings, registering their highest-ever team total against New Zealand.

For India, Abhishek Sharma rocked with the bat, smacking 84 runs off just 35 deliveries. While Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan lost their wickets cheaply, Sharma accelerated the scoreboard in the powerplay. Reaching 68 runs in the first six overs, the Men in Blue made a wonderful start to batting.

Rinku Singh did a wonderful job in the end, adding quick-fire 44 runs off 20 deliveries. Smacking two sixes and two boundaries in the final over of Daryl Mitchell, the left-handed batsman gave an impeccable finish to India’s batting.

In the chase, New Zealand lost Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra for single digits, thanks to stunning bowling shows by Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya at the start. Glenn Phillips and Mark Chapman kept the winning hopes alive, with their 78 and 39 runs respectively.

However, the Black Caps succumbed to the pressure against the high required rate towards the end, eventually finishing with 190/7. Abhishek was awarded Player of the Match for his brilliant half-century.
