The IND vs NZ second ODI took place on January 14.
Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot hosted the second ODI game between the Indian Cricket Team and the New Zealand Cricket Team on Wednesday.
After winning the first match by four wickets, India arrived at the venue with the intention of winning the India vs New Zealand (IND vs NZ) series. However, New Zealand fought back and won the match by seven wickets, leveling the three-match series at 1-1.
Unlike the opening game, Shubman Gill could not win the toss in the second ODI. New Zealand captain Michael Bracewell opted to bowl first, utilising the same strategy used by the hosts in the first game.
The Men in Blue made just one change in the playing XI, adding Nitish Kumar Reddy in the absence of Washington Sundar. The latter has been ruled out of the series after sustaining a side strain in the opening game in Vadodara.
Rohit Sharma and Gill provided a quick start to batting, adding 70 runs for the first wicket within 13 overs. However, Sharma and Virat Kohli could not make a mark with the bat, getting bowled out for 24 and 23 runs respectively.
Shubman Gill impressed with his form once again, smacking a half-century (56). At one stage, the hosts lost five wickets for 191 runs on the board. This time, KL Rahul came to the team’s rescue, smacking a century.
With his unbeaten 112 runs off 92 deliveries, the wicket-keeper batter propelled the scoreboard to 284/7 in the first innings. Kristian Clarke, who also dismissed Kohli, emerged as the most successful bowler for New Zealand with his three-wicket haul. Kyle Jamieson, Zakary Foulkes, Jayden Lennox, and Bracewell captured one scalp each.
New Zealand openers flop in the chase

New Zealand openers Devon Conway and Henry Nicholls completely flopped with the batting and could not replicate their performances from the previous clash. In the first ODI, the duo slammed half-centuries to give a great start to the batting.
This time, they could not even cross the 20-run mark. While Conway became a victim of pacer Harshit Rana for 16 runs, Nicholls was dismissed by Prasidh Krishna for 10 runs.
However, Daryl Mitchell took the responsibility of the chase and hammered an unbeaten 134 runs to bring the team home by seven wickets. Will Young also made a crucial contribution in batting, hitting 87 runs. Mitchell was adjudged Player of the Match.
