BCCI to announce India’s ODI squad for New Zealand series on January 3
According to a report by The Times of India, Indian selectors will announce India’s squad for the New Zealand series on Sunday, January 3.
The report revealed that India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar will conduct an online meeting with the selection committee to finalise the squad.
“The national selection committee, headed by chief selector Ajit Agarkar, will hold an online meeting on Jan 3 to pick the squad,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by TOI.

The Indian squad for the ODI series will meet in Vadodara on January 7, four days ahead of the first game on January 11. Additionally, the report also states that Shubman Gill will return to captain India in the ODI series against New Zealand.
Due to a neck injury, he was ruled out of the previous campaign against South Africa. Last month, he was also overlooked for the T20 World Cup squad due to his poor form in the shortest format.
India are expected to miss the services of vice-captain Shreyas Iyer, as he will undergo one more week of rehabilitation at BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE). The right-handed batsman has recovered from his spleen injury, but has not received a nod from the BCCI medical team to return to the field.
Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah are also expected to be rested for the New Zealand ODIs, as selectors look to manage their workload ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Both are part of the T20I squad.
