The third IND vs NZ test will kick off on November 1 in Mumbai.

Tom Latham’s New Zealand cricket team have achieved what no other Kiwi side had done before them: beat India in a test series in India.

India had clinically hammered Bangladesh 2-0 and their eyes were on the five-test series in Australia with the three tests against New Zealand sandwiched. Not many – or if anyone – had expected India to lose even a single test against the Black Caps, let alone the series.

But, as they usually do, New Zealand punched above their weight once again to register their maiden test series win in India. This is also India’s first home test series defeat since 2012, a period that saw them win 18 consecutive home series.

The first test in Bengaluru was played in pace-friendly conditions – clouds and moist pitch – in which the Kiwis thrived to seal an eight-wicket win.

The Pune test victory was a major shocker for the hosts as the conditions were typically Indian – dry pitch with turn on offer from day 1 – yet the Kiwis registered a comfortable 113-run victory on it to seal the series.

The action now moves on to Mumbai, where the Wankhede stadium will host the third IND vs NZ test. This is in fact the second time in a row that India and New Zealand will play at the Wankhede on New Zealand’s consecutive trip.

They previously faced off during New Zealand’s last visit in 2021, and it was a historic test.

What happened last time when India faced New Zealand in a test match at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai?

India and New Zealand met at the Wankhede stadium in a test match in the 2021 series. In that match, Kiwi left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel became the third bowler to pick up all 10 wickets in a test innings. Yet, India won the match by 372 runs, courtesy of Mayank Agarwal’s knocks of 150 and 62 runs.

Batting first, Agarwal’s 150 took India to 325 while Ajaz picked up all 10 Indian wickets. New Zealand collapsed in their first innings for only 62 runs. India then scored 276/7d in their second innings to set a target of 540, chasing which the visitors were bundled for 167.
