Rohit Sharma achieves another big feat in the 1st IND vs NZ ODI in Vadodara.
The Indian Cricket Team and the New Zealand Cricket Team are squaring off in a three-match ODI series, with the opening game taking place at BCA Stadium in Kotambi, Vadodara. Indian opener Rohit Sharma broke a marvellous record of former West Indies batter Chris Gayle in the clash.
Indian captain Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bowl first in the encounter. New Zealand piled up a powerful total of 300/8 with half-centuries by three batters. Openers Devon Conway and Henry Nicholls gave a wonderful start to batting, smacking 56 and 62 respectively.
Etching an opening stand of 117 runs within 22 overs, they put the opposition bowlers on the back foot. Later, Daryl Mitchell added 84 runs to drive the scoreboard to the 300-mark. Kristian Clarke also added an unbeaten 24* runs off 17 deliveries, making a crucial contribution to the chase.
In the tricky chase, Rohit and Shubman Gill opened the batting for the hosts, bonding once again after missing the role in the previous campaign against South Africa.
Sharma looked brilliant at the start, starting with three boundaries and two sixes. However, his innings was short-lived as he became a victim of pacer Kyle Jamieson in the ninth over, adding 26 runs off 29 deliveries.

Although Rohit Sharma could not grab the limelight with the bat, he stole an incredible record in his kitty. With 329 sixes in the 50-over format, he has clinched the record for most sixes as an opener in ODI cricket, surpassing Chris Gayle.
While Gayle smacked 328 sixes in his career, Rohit has 329 sixes in his kitty as an opener. Moreover, Sharma is the leading six-hitter in the 50-over format, with 357 maximums.
