IND vs PAK Asia Cup 2023 Super Four Match 3 to have a reserve day.
In what is good news for the fans of cricket, the upcoming India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2023 Super Four encounter which will be played on Saturday, September 10, 2023, will have a reserve day keeping the weather forecast in mind in Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka.
This decision was prompted by weather forecasts indicating the likelihood of rain on Sunday, with the anticipation that adverse weather conditions might hinder the completion of a full match on the originally scheduled day.
Interestingly, the Super 4 game between these two bitter rivals is the only one with a reserve day.
Amidst the impending week of rain in Colombo, reports said that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the tournament's official hosts, initially backed the idea of moving the Colombo matches to Hambantota. The ACC eventually announced that the games would take place in Colombo as originally planned.
The PCB subsequently complained to ACC president Jay Shah in a letter, raising issues with the decision-making procedure, but ultimately consented to the call.
When will the reserve day for IND vs PAK Asia Cup 2023 Super Four match come in?
The previous clash between India and Pakistan was marred by rain in Kandy, as only an innings' play was possible before the match was abandoned. India had scored 266 but couldn't return to bowl due to persistent rain.
There is still a potential that rain would interfere with the India-Pakistan game on Sunday; the likelihood of precipitation is up to 90%.
Now the Asian Cricket Council released a statement about having a reserve day for the India vs. Pakistan game.
It read: “A reserve day has been incorporated for the Super11 Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match between India vs Pakistan scheduled to take place on 10th September 2023 at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.
If adverse weather suspends play during the India vs Pakistan game, the match will continue on 11th September 2023 from the point it was suspended. In such an eventuality, ticket-holders are advised to hold on to their match tickets which will remain valid and will be utilized for the reserve day.”
This means that if the match between India and Pakistan is halted by rain on Sunday, it would continue on Monday from the same point it was suspended the previous day and would not be restarted.
