Rohit Sharma has shared his thoughts on India’s pink-ball warm-up game against Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra.

India defeated Prime Minister’s XI in the warm-up game scheduled before their day/night clash against Australia in Adelaide.

Originally planned as a two-day warm-up match, the game was revised to a 50-over-per-side game after the first day was washed out due to rain.

India won the toss and opted to field first, aiming to give their bowlers some time with the pink ball during the afternoon session. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill returned on the field for the visitors after missing out the first test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Perth.

Harshit Rana starred for India with the ball claiming a four-wicket haul whereas, for the hosts, young New South Wales batter Sam Konstas made headlines with his sensational hundred in the game.

India bowled out PM’s XI to a low total of 240 in the first innings.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, Sarfaraz Khan and Devdutt Padikkal got to bat for India in the second innings.

While Rahul and Gill retired out after spending some time at the crease, Rohit’s return ended with a disappointing score of three runs. Shubman Gill notched up a half century while both Nitish Reddy and Washington Sundar contributed with quickfire 42 runs. The game ended with India finishing at 257/5 in 46 overs. India were awarded the victory by six wickets.

Following the game, the visitors’ captain Rohit Sharma shared his thoughts about how the game helped India in their preparation.

Rohit Sharma reflects on the warm-up game

Rohit Sharma expressed his satisfaction with the warm-up game against the Prime Minister’s XI, despite the interruptions.

Rohit said, “It was fantastic. We got what we wanted as a group, a little unlucky we couldn’t get the whole game, but whatever time we got, we tried to make the most of it.”

Rohit also appreciated the support from the fans in Australia. He continued, “Absolutely fantastic to see the crowd. We love coming to Australia, and it’s great to see them come out and support us. Never been a time when they’ve come here and not turned up. Really nice to see people coming in and cheering us on.
