India made a solid start to the first IND vs SA test in Kolkata.

India had a solid start to the first test of the two-match series against South Africa. They dominated the opening day of the series opener at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Friday, November 14. Batting first, after winning the toss, South Africa got all out for just 159, in response, India ended day one with 37/1, trailing by 122.

South Africa had a great start with the bat with openers in Aiden Markram (31) and Ryan Rickelton (23) batted positively. They were all over the Indian bowlers in the first hour of play, adding 57 runs for the opening stand. However, after that Jasprit Bumrah brought his team back in the game, removing both openers.

After that, Indian bowlers took command of the match and didn’t let South Africa batters make a comeback. Wiaan Mulder (24) and Tony de Zorzi (24) tried hard for their 43-run stand but couldn’t carry on. From 57/0, South Africa got all out for 159. Jasprit Bumrah took a magical fifer, while Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav bagged two scalps each. 

India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal (12) early in their first innings. But, KL Rahul (13*) and new number three Washington Sundar (6*) steadied the ship, batting with calm. The duo added 19 unbeaten runs for the partnership as India ended day one at 37/1, trailing by 122.

The second day of the Kolkata test will start with the first session at 9:30 AM IST, which will see lunch break at 11:30 AM IST. After a 40-minute lunch break, the game will resume for the second session, which will be played from 12:10 PM to 2:10 PM. The day’s play will second break of day when both the teams will go for tea for 20 minutes from 2:10 PM to 2:30 PM. The final session will take place from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM. There is a 30-minute extra time from 4:30 PM to 5 PM to cover the daily quota of overs.
