India beat South Africa by 101 runs in the first IND vs SA T20I in Cuttack.
After winning the ODI series, India started the T20I series on a high, registering an emphatic win in the first game against South Africa. They bagged a massive run win at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Tuesday.
India had a worst possible start to their innings as Shubman Gill, who made a return after injury, fell on the second ball of the innings for just four. After that, captain Suryakumar Yadav also struggled as India lost two wickets in no time. Abhishek Sharma (17) had a start but he too perished early.
Tilak Varma (26) along with Axar Patel (23) tried to steady the ship, adding 30 runs for the fourth wicket but it was a similar story for both as it was for the Indian top order. With the team struggling at 104 for five, Hardik Pandya (59*) played a blinder on his return after injury.
He slammed a brutal fifty and took India to 175 for six, which at one stage seemed impossible. For South Africa, Lungi Ngidi picked three wickets.
In South Africa’s chase, Arshdeep Singh wreaked havoc with the new ball, removing Quinton de Kock for duck and Tristan Stubbs for 14. Soon after that, Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy and Hardik Pandya were in action as South Africa lost five wickets for just 50.
Dewald Brevis (22) kept fighting hard but South African wickets fell like a pack of cards. Every Indian bowler was in wickets as India bundled out South Africa for 74 to win the game by a huge margin of 101.
