There were a lot of speculations related to his availability for the second test as he travelled with the team to Guwahati as well.

Unfortunately, he was not fully fit to feature in the 2nd Test and will head to Mumbai for further assessment of his injury. Rishabh Pant will lead the team in the 2nd Test in Gill’s absence,” stated BCCI.

In the absence of Gill, India would be under pressure as they are already 1-0 down in the series and also the fact that they will be without their key batter. Either of Sai Sudharsan or Devdutt Padikkal is expected to replace him in the XI.
