Shubman Gill missed the South Africa ODIs due to the neck injury he suffered in the Kolkata test.
Regarding T20I vice-captain Shubman Gill‘s availability for the forthcoming five-match series against South Africa, India head coach Gautam Gambhir gave a comprehensive update.
Gill will be able to play in all five of the T20I matches against the Proteas, which are scheduled for December 9–19, according to Gambhir.
India announced their 15-man team for the T20I series against South Africa on December 3. Gill was added, although fitness clearance was needed for his availability. Gill is not the captain in the T20I format. Gill will be the deputy of middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav, who will captain the Indian team in the series.
While batting in the opening test match against South Africa in Kolkata, Shubman Gill suffered a neck injury. The right-handed hitter did not bat again in the second inning after having to retire after only a few balls.
He was also unable to play in the subsequent test in Guwahati due to the injury. India lost that match by a staggering margin of 408 runs under the captaincy of Rishabh Pant, and they subsequently lost the series 2-0. Gill was also left out of the subsequent three-match ODI series. On December 6, India nevertheless prevailed 2-1 in the ODI series.
Shubman Gill ready to start in T20Is- Gautam Gambhir

India and South Africa will now compete in a five-match T20I series. The first match will be played in Cuttack on December 9, followed by games in New Chandigarh, Dharamsala, Lucknow, and Ahmedabad.
After Team India defeated South Africa 2-1 in the ODI series, he addressed the media. Shubman Gill has totally healed, according to Gautam Gambhir. Gill was only chosen, he claimed, because he is fully fit and ready to return to the pitch.
“Yes, Shubman is ready to start. That’s why he has been selected. And obviously he is fit and fine, hungry to go,” Gambhir was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.
The five-match series against Australia was Gill’s most recent T20I appearance. In the next Twenty20 Internationals against South Africa, he will make his comeback as an opener for India. Gill will be Abhishek Sharma’s top partner.
India’s T20I squad for South Africa series:
