IND vs USA: When was the last time India lost 6 wickets in a T20I under 80 runs at home?

India suffered a huge top-order collapse against USA in their first game of T20 World Cup 2026.

Indian Cricket Team are squaring off with USA in their opening game of ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The IND vs USA encounter is taking place on February 7 (Saturday) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

USA captain Monank Patel won the toss and opted to field first in the clash. While Suryakumar Yadav admitted that they wanted to bat first, their batting did not go as expected at all.

Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan opened the batting for India, with the former losing his wicket for a golden duck in the second over. After his dismissal, Kishan and Tilak Varma propelled the scoreboard to 40+ till the fifth over.

However, the Men-in-Blue suffered a big blow in the sixth over, which was bowled by pacer Shadley van Schalkwyk, who took three wickets in that over. Kishan lost his wicket on the second delivery, followed by Varma and Shivam Dube’s dismissals in the last two balls.

IND vs USA: India struggled at 77/6 at one stage against USA

With India’s scoreboard reading 46/4 at the end of powerplay, fans were completely shocked over their batting woes against the USA bowlers. They later lost Hardik Pandya and Rinku Singh before the 13th over, railing at 77/6 at one stage.

Spectators inside the Wankhede Stadium were completely stunned with India’s batting collapse, and the cheers soon turned into complete silence. However, the hosts’ captain rose to the occasion, playing a brilliant knock of unbeaten 84 runs off 49 balls.

He kept his patience at one end and helped the team to reach a respectable total of 161/9 in 20 overs. Hitting 10 fours and four sixes, he played a captain’s knock and rescued the team amid a horrible batting show.

Notably, India losing their six wickets with less than 80 runs in a T20I match was a rare event, especially at home. The last time the Men-in-Blue faced such a scenario in a home game came in November 2017.

Meanwhile, Shadley van Schalkwyk grabbed a four-wicket haul for USA and was the pick of the bowlers. Harmeet Singh hunted two scalps while Ali Khan and Mohammad Mohsin captured one wicket each.
