IND vs WI: 3 biggest talking points from India's test squad announcement

The two-match IND vs WI test series will begin on 2nd October in Ahmedabad.
The much-awaited Indian Cricket Team squad for the upcoming test series against the West Indies was announced on Thursday, 25th September. Shubman Gill is all set to lead the side in his first home test series, which will begin on October 2, a few days after the final of Asia Cup 2025.
The series will see two matches, which will take place in Ahmedabad and Delhi. Rishabh Pant is not part of the team, as he is recovering from the foot injury, while Shreyas Iyer has taken a break from red-ball cricket.
There are a few names that are missing from the 15-member squad, which has surprised everyone. However, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has made some bold moves within the squad, and here we will talk about the top three talking points from the Indian squad for the IND vs WI home test series.
IND vs WI: 3 biggest talking points from India’s test squad announcement
1. Ravindra Jadeja named vice-captain

Ravindra Jadeja had an average test series in England with the ball, where he only took seven wickets in five tests. But with the bat, he was the fourth-highest scorer with 516 runs, including one century and five half-centuries, showing why India rate him so highly in tests.
And now, with no Pant in the squad, Jadeja has been given the added responsibility to assist Gill as vice-captain of the side. With Ravichandran Ashwin retiring, Jadeja’s role as a bowler will be immense, and he has always been a top performer.
2. Karun Nair dropped

It took eight long years for Karun Nair to make his comeback in whites for India after getting dropped in March 2017. After consistent performances across formats at the domestic level and then a really impressive show in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for Delhi Capitals, he finally had his much-awaited chance.
He was picked for the five-match English tour as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their sudden test retirement ahead of the series. But his return to the test side wasn’t fruitful as he managed to score only 205 runs in four tests at an average of 25.62 with one fifty. He wasn’t able to impress the selectors, and hence, has been dropped from the squad.
3. Jasprit Bumrah not rested

Indian management has used Jasprit Bumrah very carefully in their last test campaign in England as he has a long history with injuries. He played only three tests in England and is part of the ongoing Asia Cup 2025. There were multiple reports, which claimed Bumrah might be rested for the home series as he has been playing continuously in Asia Cup 2025.
He will also be part of the final, which will be played on September 28, and the first test starts in a three-day gap. Despite that, Bumrah has been picked and will be playing the series.
