Sanju Samson slammed a brilliant half-century in IND vs WI Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2026.
Sanju Samson didn’t start for India in the T20 World Cup 2026 with Ishan Kishan chosen ahead of him. Samson failed to utilise chances which came his way in the bilateral series against New Zealand.
However, fate helped him return to the XI with Ishan Kishan being pushed to number three. He made a good contribution against Zimbabwe but once again failed to convert a start into a big score, getting dismissed for a quick-fire 24.
However, in the do or die clash against the West Indies, Samson is leading India‘s reply as they look to hunt down their highest ever run chase in a T20 World Cup match.
Sanju Samson becomes first Indian wicket-keeper to hit fifty in run chase in T20 World Cup

Despite losing early wickets of Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kisha, Sanju Samson ensured India maintained the temp with regular boundaries. He paced his innings well, and batted responsibly. He avoided his past mistakes of throwing away good starts, and went on to score a maiden half century in T20 World Cup off just 26 balls.
In doing so, Samson became the first ever Indian wicket keeper to score a half century in a T20 World Cup run chase. Samson could not have brought up this milestone at a better time, when his country needed a special knock from him.
Interestingly, the Keralite batter is the first to achieve this ahead of the likes of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Dinesh Karthik and KL Rahul. This underlines Samson’s class and talent, and the underutilised potential which has been wasted repeatedly in the past.
The winner of this match will play the semi-finals in Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium against 2022 champions team England on March 5.

He became the first ever Indian wicket keeper to score a half century in a T20 World Cup run chase.
