IND vs WI: Why did Brandon King miss T20 World Cup 2026 match 52?

Brandon King was part of the West Indies’ previous game against South Africa.
India and the West Indies are clashing in the Super 8 Round of the T20 World Cup 2026 on Sunday, March 1. The IND vs WI clash is a must-win game for both teams as the winner will book a berth in the semi-final, while the losing team will be eliminated from the tournament.
Suryakumar Yadav & Co. are placed in the third spot in the Group 1 points table after the West Indies. Both teams have two points each after winning one game against Zimbabwe and losing the other against South Africa in Round 2.
However, India have a lower Net Run Rate (NNR) than the West Indies and will need to outperform them to reach the knockout round. Otherwise, the West Indies will join South Africa as the second semi-finalists from Group 1 in the T20 World Cup 2026.
Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and opted to field first. At the toss, he informed that they have made no changes to their playing XI. On the other hand, West Indies captain Shai Hope revealed that they have made one change. Brandon King was absent from the match.
Why is Brandon King not playing against India?
Notably, opener King has been replaced by spinner Akeal Hosein in the playing XI. King has struggled to score runs in the tournament since the start, failing to hit any half-centuries across six games he played.
Moreover, King also suffered an injury while trying to grab Aiden Markram’s catch in the previous game against South Africa. He was also taken out of the field by the team physios after the dropped catch.
The West Indies also wanted to have an extra spinner in the playing XI against India on the spin-friendly wicket of Eden Gardens.
