The announcement also saw several players getting dropped from the squad, who were part of the squad for the five-match test tour of England earlier this year. Ajit Agarkar reveals why Abhimanyu Easwaran was not picked for West Indies series

While naming the India squad for home tests against the West Indies, the chief selector, Ajit Agarkar said that they could only pick 15 players in the squad, and went ahead with an extra spinner instead of an extra opener in Easwaran.

Further he explained that, during the overseas tours, it is important to have a back-up opener, while in home series, it’s important to have a back-up spinner.

“When you travel you take a third opener, here you get an extra spin option in Axar and only pick 15. KL & Jaiswal haven’t done too bad, if we need him we can fly him out,” he said.
