IND vs ZIM took place at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday.

India beat Zimbabwe comfortably to keep their hopes of reaching the semi-finals of T20 World Cup 2026 alive. After being thrashed by South Africa earlier, this was a must-win clash for both teams. However, a dominant display with the bat left the opposition with too much to do in the end.

It all began with Sanju Samson laying the foundation, and then Abhishek Sharma finally finding some form with his first half century of the T20 World Cup. Captain Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan scored quick cameos, before Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya provided the finishing touches to help India score their highest score (256/4) in the competition’s history.

Zimbabwe, in reply, were never in the chase, scoring well below the required rate. Despite some resistance from Brian Bennett who scored an unbeaten 97, India eventually won by 72 runs. With this outcome, Zimbabwe have been knocked out, and South Africa join England as the two confirmed semi-finalists of the competition.

India and West Indies will clash in Kolkata on Sunday, with the winner advancing to the semi-finals.
