India at ICC Champions Trophy finals: List of all match results

India have won the ICC Champions Trophy twice.
The first edition of the ICC Champions Trophy, previously known as the ICC Knockout Trophy, was held in 1998 in Bangladesh. Since then, nine editions have been played. Australia and India are the most successful teams in the tournament’s history with two titles each.
India have been one of the most consistent teams in the tournament, participating in all nine editions – 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2013, 2017, and 2025 – and qualifying for finals in five of them in 2000, 2002, 2013, 2017, and 2025.
India, however, have also experienced their share of lows in the tournament, having lost the final on two occasions. In this article, we will take a look at the list of all the ICC Champions Trophy finals, in which India participated.
India at ICC Champions Trophy finals: List of all match results
1. India vs New Zealand, Nairobi, 2000
India reached the ICC Champions Trophy (then ICC Knockout Trophy) final for the first time in 2000, where they faced New Zealand in Nairobi.
Batting first, captain Sourav Ganguly’s 117 off 130 led India to a competitive total of 264/6 in 50 overs. India, once cruising towards a big score at 140/0, were restricted by New Zealand’s disciplined bowling in the middle overs.
In reply, Chris Cairns played one of the greatest innings in tournament history, scoring 102 off 113 balls to guide the Kiwis to a four-wicket win. He was named Player of the Match for his efforts.
2. India vs Sri Lanka, Colombo, 2002
India’s first ICC Champions Trophy title came in an unorthodox manner against Sri Lanka in Colombo in 2002.
Then Men in Blue had qualified for the finals after defeating South Africa in a thrilling semi-final clash by 10 runs.
The final was played over two days – the scheduled day and the reserve day. Sri Lanka batted first on both days, posting 244/5 and 222/7 respectively. However, India’s innings was interrupted by rain on both occasions within the first 10 overs.
As a result, both teams were declared joint winners. No Player of the Match was awarded for the final.
3. India vs England, Birmingham, 2013
India created history by becoming only the second team after Australia to win two ICC Champions Trophy titles when they defeated England in the final of 2013 edition in Birmingham.
The game, reduced to 20 overs per side due to rain, saw India bat first and set a small total of 129/7. Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja helped India recover from 66/5 with their contributions of 43 and 33 runs respectively.
In reply, England lost early wickets and were reduced to 46/4. Eoin Morgan and Ravi Bopara then added 64 runs to bring England back into the game. Ishant Sharma, however, dismissed both set batters on consecutive balls, helping India seal a memorable five-run win.
Ravindra Jadeja was named Player of the Match for his contribution of 33 runs and two wickets in the game.
4. India vs Pakistan, The Oval, 2017
Indian fans experienced one of their biggest heartbreaks in recent times during the India-Pakistan ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final at The Oval.
After winning the toss and opting to field first, India’s decision turned out to be a wrong one as Pakistan posted a massive total of 338 runs in the first innings. The Indian bowlers struggled against Fakhar Zaman, who scored 114 off 106 balls, including 12 fours and three sixes.
In reply, India were rattled early and slipped to 33/3 in the ninth over due to Mohammad Amir’s brilliance. India’s hopes for a third title were dashed in the 27th over when Hardik Pandya was run out on 76.
India ultimately lost the game by 180 runs. Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman was named Player of the Match for his hundred.
5. India vs New Zealand, Dubai, 2025
Will be updated once the match concludes.
