BCCI secretary Jay Shah is confident of India doing well under Rohit Sharma in the T20 World Cup 2024.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah is confident about India’s performance in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA. Jay Shah made a huge statement on sidelines of renaming ceremony of Saurashtra Cricket Stadium in Rajkot. Jay Shah also made it clear that Rahul Dravid is likely to continue as coach.

According to news reports from Hindustan Times, Jay Shah has made it clear that Rahul Dravid will be travelling with Indian side for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Rahul Dravid’s contract was extended after ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final. Rahul Dravid joined the Indian side after replacing Ravi Shastri right after ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE.

Jay Shah confirms Dravid’s role

As quoted by Hindustan Times, The BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced, “After the 2023 World Cup, Rahul bhai had to leave for the South Africa tour immediately. We did not get to meet in between which finally happened today, why are you worried about a contract for such a senior person like Rahul Dravid? Rahul bhai will remain the coach in the T20 World Cup.”

It was Jay Shah and BCCI president Roger Binny, who played a vital role in convincing Rahul Dravid to continue as head coach of the side. Rahul Dravid was reluctant to join the Indian camp after World Cup 2023 final as he wanted to share more time with his family and his kids. Rahul was looking for gigs in the IPL, but BCCI president and secretary convinced Dravid to rejoin.

Jay Shah also confirmed in his speech that Rohit Sharma will be leading the Indian side in upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit Sharma was away from the format for last 13 months till January 2024 and made his comeback against Afghanistan in the three-match series. Jay Shah also confirmed that he will have a talk with Virat Kohli about his availability for T20I cricket.
