Out of these, England won 52 games and India won 36 matches. 50 encounters ended in a draw. In England, India have won only 10 tests out of 70 matches and lost 37 encounters. 22 matches ended in a draw.

Later, India managed to put 284 on the scoreboard in the first innings with half-centuries by Farokh Engineer (59) and Dilip Sardesai (54). England skipper Ray Illingworth captured a five-wicket haul. In the second innings, England faced a huge batting collapse, getting all out for just 101 runs.
