List of double centuries (200) hit by left-handed Indian batsmen in test cricket

Only four left-handed Indian batsmen have hit double century in test cricket.
Left-handed batters always look classy when they play in full flow. A lot of left-hand batters have made their name with terrific batting performances in test cricket. Kumar Sangakkara, Sourav Ganguly, Allan Border and David Warner they all have inspired youngsters with their great batting performances. Currently, the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ben Duckett and Usman Khawaja have dazzled the world stage with their batting.
In Indian cricket, there are a few names who have went on to become a regular member in test cricket with their consistent show with the bat. Only a few Indian left-hand batters have managed to score double centuries in test cricket. Let’s have a look at the list of double centuries hit by left-handed Indian batsmen in test cricket.
1. Vinod Kambli – 224 vs England, Mumbai, 1993 :

Former Indian left-hand batter Vinod Kambli is not only the youngest Indian batter to score a double century in test cricket, but also the first ever left-handed Indian batter to hit a double century in test cricket. Vinod Kambli’s first double century (224) came against England at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in 1993. Vinod Kambli is one of the finest left-handers in Indian cricket, but he managed to play only 17 test matches for India in his short cricketing career.
2. Vinod Kambli – 227 vs Zimbabwe, Delhi, 1993 :

Right after scoring 224 against England in Mumbai, Vinod Kambli scored 227 runs against Zimbabwe at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium (Now known as Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium) in Delhi in 1993. Vinod Kambli was the first Indian batter to score consecutive double centuries in test cricket. Kambli scored 227 runs off 301 balls with 28 boundaries. Vinod Kambli went on to score two more centuries in test cricket.
3. Sourav Ganguly – 239 vs Pakistan, Bengaluru, 2007 :

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly managed to score only one double century in his test cricketing career. Sourav Ganguly’s only double century in tests came against Pakistan at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in 2007 when he smashed 239 runs. Sourav Ganguly represented India in 113 tests from 1996 to 2008, in which he scored 7212 runs including 16 hundreds.
4. Gautam Gambhir – 206 vs Australia, Delhi, 2008 :

Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir went on to score his first and only double-century against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy played in 2008. Gambhir’s special test knock came at his home ground, Feroz Shah Kotla Cricket Stadium (Now known as Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium) in Delhi. He scored 206 runs off 380 balls with 26 fours and one six. Gambhir is one of the finest left-hand opening batters India have had in their history.
5. Yashasvi Jaiswal – 209 vs England, Visakhapatnam, 2024 :

Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is the latest entry in this elite list. Fondly called as ‘Junior Ganguly,’ Yashasvi Jaiswal played one of the most controlled test knocks in Visakhapatnam. Left-hander Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 209 runs off 290 balls with 19 fours and seven towering sixes in his special knock against England in February, 2024. Yashasvi Jaiswal had a terrific beginning to his test career for team India.
