India are set to play a one-off Test against Afghanistan from June 6 in New Chandigarh. It will be their only red-ball match in the remaining 2026.

India have climbed to the third spot with 104 rating points. They have moved ahead of England, who are now fourth with 102 points. This change came after the annual update removed older results and gave more weight to recent performances.
Australia remain at the top with 131 points. South Africa hold the second position with 119 points. India’s rise shows steady progress in Test cricket. The team has performed well in recent series.
A key factor in this improvement is the leadership of Shubman Gill. Even though many of head coach Gautam Gambhir’s decisions have been questionable, the team won their recent Test series against West Indies. They also ended the tour of England in a draw.
England, on the other hand, slipped to fourth place. Their recent results were not strong enough to hold onto third position. New Zealand is close behind India and England with 101 points, making the competition tight.
India will now aim to keep improving. The upcoming matches and the big home series against Australia will be key. Strong performances there can help India climb even higher in the rankings and make it to the WTC 2025-27 final.
