Mohammad Amir took three wickets in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to make its much-awaited return in February after an eight-year break. The previous edition of the tournament took place in 2017 in England, where Pakistan secured their maiden title.

The tournament features eight teams divided into two groups – Group A and Group B. The ninth edition of the competition will be held across venues in Pakistan and Dubai, featuring a total of 15 matches.

Arch-rivals India and Pakistan are placed together in Group A, with their high voltage clash scheduled for February 23 in Dubai.

While India are labeled as tournament favorites, Pakistan have displayed exceptional form in the 50-over format, securing ODI series victories against Australia (2-1) and South Africa (3-0).

Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has shared his thoughts on the upcoming mega clash, stating that Pakistan will have the upper hand over their rivals.

Amir played a key role in Pakistan’s famous win over India in the 2017 Champions Trophy final. The left-arm seamer tore through the Indian top-order with figures of 3/16 in six overs. Pakistan won that final by 180 runs.

Speaking about the high-voltage clash, Amir opined that Pakistan’s recent ODI series victories against South Africa and Australia will boost their confidence and would give them an edge over India.

Amir was quoted as saying by Times of India, “The way Pakistan has played recently — defeating Australia in Australia and then beating South Africa — shows their strength, especially in overseas conditions. Considering their recent performances, I think Pakistan will have the upper hand against India.

He acknowledged that India are always the favorites in major tournaments but believes that the recent wave of criticism could impact the Men in Blue.

He added, “However, India has always been my favorite in big tournaments. But the Indian team is under pressure and facing severe criticism due to their recent defeats.
