ENG vs IND: Indian cricketers' performance rating in the test series

The test series between England and India ended in a 2-2 draw.

The five-match test series against the England Cricket Team marked the beginning of a new era for the Indian Cricket Team in the longest format of the game. After the retirements of seniors, the youngsters took the onus and they did a reasonable job with bat and ball.

Under the leadership of Shubman Gill, India showed a great fight and challenged England in all the games in their home ground. Although the series result didn’t go in their favour, they did well throughout the five games to draw the series.

During their tour to England, India broke quite a few records and also registered their first-ever test win at Edgbaston in Birmingham. There was also some individual brilliance that provided immense entertainment to the fans.

With the kind of efforts that they showed, it’s fair to say that the future of the Indian Cricket Team is in safe hands in the longest format of the game. On that note, let’s take a look at the ratings of Indian players in the test series against England:

1. Shubman Gill – 9.5/10

India captain Shubman Gill had a series to remember with the bat as he scored truckloads of runs. The batter mustered 754 runs in five games to go with four tons. He ended the series as the highest run-getter and silenced all these critics. However, he is still on the learning curve as a leader as he made a few tactical errors.

2. KL Rahul – 9/10

KL Rahul finished the series as the second leading run-getter for India in the series. After the retirement of Rohit Sharma, he was handed the permanent spot as an opener, and he repaid the faith of management by coming up with his best-ever test series. He slammed 532 runs to go with two centuries and two fifties.

3. Ravindra Jadeja – 9/10

One of the top performers for India with the bat was Ravindra Jadeja. The all-rounder stood like a wall with the bat down the order and scored crucial runs in almost every game. He scored 516 runs in the series with one ton and five fifties. However, with the ball, he wasn’t as good as he would’ve wanted, ending with seven wickets.

4. Mohammed Siraj – 9/10

Mohammed Siraj gave his heart and soul for India in the test series against England. He showed incredible fitness, playing all five games with high intensity. He ends the series as the leading wicket-taker with 23 wickets to his name to go with two fifers and one four-fer.

5. Rishabh Pant – 9/10

Rishabh Pant had an unfortunate end to the series as he was ruled out of the last game with a toe injury. However, before that, he was exceptional with the bat. The keeper-batter contributed massively with the bat in the first four games, amassing 479 runs at an average of around 69. He also slammed two tons and three fifties.

6. Yashasvi Jaiswal – 8/10

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was on his first tour to England, had a decent series with the bat. However, the consistency which he has shown in his career was missing. Despite that, he went on to score 411 runs in the series to go with two centuries and two fifties.

7. Washington Sundar – 8/10

Washington Sundar was the partner in crime for Ravindra Jadeja in the series. While batting down the order, he showed great skills and played a vital role for India, scoring 284 runs to go with one ton and one fifty. Also, with the ball, he was decent, picking seven wickets.

8. Jasprit Bumrah – 8/10

Due to the workload management, Jasprit Bumrah played just three games in the series. He had two fantastic games at Headingley and theLord’s, picking five-wicket hauls. But struggled in the fourth test in Manchester. He ended the series with 14 wickets.

9. Akash Deep – 7/10

Akash Deep acted as a great replacement for Jasprit Bumrah in the series. He looked threatening with the ball in the game that he played and was the major reason behind India’s win at Edgbaston. He picked 13 wickets in three games and also scored crucial runs with the bat, including a 66-run knock at The Oval.

10. Prasidh Krishna – 6.5/10

Prasidh Krishna had a torrid time with the ball in the first two games of the series. He was taken for a lot of runs and then got dropped. However, he made a strong return to the XI in the last game and picked crucial wickets in both the innings. He ends the series with 14 wickets.

11. Karun Nair – 5/10

Coming into the series on the back of a dominating Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Sai Sudharsan was expected to play a major part in the series. However, he didn’t look promising. He managed just one fifty in the series and scored 140 runs in the three games that he played.

Dhruv Jurel didn’t have much part to play in the series. He kept wickets for India in the third and fourth games after Rishabh Pant was ruled out. But he made quite a few errors. In the last game at the Oval, he got an opportunity to bat but couldn’t quite cash it and ended the series with 53 runs.

14. Nitish Kumar Reddy – 4/10

Nitish Kumar Reddy played just two games in the series and was ruled out due to a knee injury. In those games, he had his moments, but his performance wasn’t match-changing. With the bat, he scored just 45 runs and picked up three wickets with the ball.

15. Shardul Thakur – 2/10

Another major disappointment for India was Shardul Thakur. He struggled badly with the ball as he leaked a lot of runs and also failed to pick wickets. He ended the series with just two scalps. Also, with the bat, he scored just 46 runs.

16. Anshul Kamboj – 1/10
