India squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025: 3 players who were part of winning party in 2013 edition

India squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025 was announced on January 18.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar and Indian captain Rohit Sharma held a press conference in Mumbai on January 18 to announce India’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
India will enter the competition as one of the favorites, given that they were finalists of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Moreover, they have at least made it to semi-finals of every ICC ODI tournament since the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011, which they won at home.
India received a major boost with the return of star pacer Mohammed Shami, who will be vital in Dubai’s dry conditions. The team has also included young talents Yashasvi Jaiswal and Arshdeep Singh in the squad.
India are scheduled to start their Champions Trophy 2025 campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai. They will then face arch-rivals Pakistan on February 23 and take on New Zealand on March 2 at the same venue.
India last won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013, and only a few players from that squad are still active international cricketers. On that note, let’s look at three players who won the Champions Trophy in 2013 and have been included in squad for the 2025 edition.
India squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025: 3 players who were part of winning party in 2013 edition
1. Rohit Sharma
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma had a career-changing moment in the 2013 Champions Trophy when he was promoted as an opener in the first game against South Africa.
Rohit performed well in the tournament, scoring 177 runs at an average of 36, including two half-centuries. His opening partnership with Shikhar Dhawan provided a solid foundation for the middle-order players to accelerate.
Rohit has now become one of the greatest white-ball players of all time. India will rely on their captain to provide strong starts, similar to his performances in the 50-over World Cup 2023.
2. Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli‘s role in India’s 2013 ICC Champions Trophy is often overlooked. The Indian No. 3 scored 176 runs in the tournament at an average of 59 and a strike rate of 96. He played a key role with a 43-run knock in the final, helping India set a challenging target of 129 runs.
Virat’s role in the upcoming edition will be vital for India in Dubai conditions. With Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul now providing solid support, India have reliable middle-order players to back up Kohli.
3. Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja, was the highest wicket-taker in the 2013 Champions Trophy, with 12 wickets at an average of 12.83. He also played a key role for India in the final, scoring 33 runs and taking two wickets against England.
Jadeja faces healthy competition this time with the inclusion of other spin bowling all-rounders – Washington Sundar and Axar Patel. India will rely on his experience to partner Kuldeep Yadav in the bowling department.
