India will play all of their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 matches in Dubai.
The ICC Champions Trophy (CT) is set to make its return after an eight-year break. The tournament was last held in 2017 in England.
The competition will start on February 19 in Karachi and conclude with the final on March 9 in Lahore (Dubai if India qualify). After extensive discussions and negotiations between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the International Cricket Council (ICC), and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), all of India’s matches of the tournament will be played in Dubai.
The tournament features eight teams divided into two groups – Group A and Group B. The ninth edition of the competition will be held across venues in Pakistan and Dubai, featuring a total of 15 matches.
India will enter the tournament as heavy favourites, having shown exceptional form in limited-overs cricket in recent years. They came agonizingly close to their third ICC Cricket World Cup title in 2023, losing to Australia by six wickets in the final.
Notably, India were runners-up in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 as well, losing the final to Pakistan by 180 runs.
India squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025 likely to be announced next week
As fans speculate India’s squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England at home and for the ICC event, recent reports in Cricbuzz have revealed that the Indian team is likely to request an extension from the ICC to announce their squad. As per ICC guidelines, teams are required to announce provisional squads one month before any ICC event, with the option to make changes later.
Earlier reports suggested that the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee would announce the provisional squad for the Champions Trophy by January 12. However, the announcement is now likely to be next week by January 18-19.
The T20I squad for the England series is expected to be announced in the next couple of days.
According to the same reports, Indian speedster Mohammed Shami is expected to receive clearance from the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence to be included in the ODI squad against England. Arshdeep Singh is another name likely to make the squad, while Nitish Reddy is unlikely to feature in the ODI squad.
