India and Afghanistan will lock horns in three ODIs in June

After the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Indian Cricket Team will clash with Afghanistan in a one-off test and ODI series next month. The cash-rich league will conclude on May 31, and the focus will shift to international cricket straightaway after that.

According to a report by The Times Now, the India squad for the ODI series against Afghanistan has been finalised.

Shubman Gill is set to captain India in the ODI series, which will also see the return of veteran batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Both of them last played in the ODI series against New Zealand in January. Shreyas Iyer will be Gill’s deputy.

Pacer Jasprit Bumrah is likely to get rested, while Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh and Prasidh Krishna will be part of the pace unit.

KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan would be the two wicket-keepers for India, with the latter making a comeback to the 50-over format after a long time. Dhruv Jurel, who was part of the New Zealand series, has been axed from the squad along with Rishabh Pant.

Another surprising addition is Tilak Varma, who has usually been preferred in the shortest format in the past. Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and Nitish Kumar Reddy will be the three crucial all-rounders. Kuldeep Yadav will lead the spin attack.
