India squad for Test & ODI series against Afghanistan announced; Rishabh Pant dropped from 50-over format

India and Afghanistan will clash in one test and three ODIs.
After the conclusion of the Indian Premier League 2026 on May 31, Indian players will gear up for the multi-format series against Afghanistan. India and Afghanistan are set to clash in one test and three ODIs.
The one-off test will be played from June 6 to 10 at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. The test will not be part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle.
The ODI series will begin on June 14 with the opening game at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. The second game will be played on June 17 at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, while the final clash will take place on June 20 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India’s squad for the Test and ODI series against Afghanistan. Shubman Gill will lead the team in both campaigns. A few key players will be absent from the series.
Shubman Gill to captain India against Afghanistan

Shubman Gill is set to lead India in the test and ODI series against Afghanistan. Surprisingly, KL Rahul has replaced Rishabh Pant as the vice-captain in tests.
A few debutants have also earned a place in the test series. Gurnoon Brar, Harsh Dubey, and Manav Suthar are three fresh faces in the test squad. With his brilliant performance in the Ranji Trophy, Devdutt Padikkal has made a comeback to the test.
Jasprit Bumrah has been rested from both campaigns. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are set to play in the ODI series. Prince Yadav, Harsh Dubey, and Gurnoor Brar have been given maiden call-ups in ODIs. Pant has been dropped from the ODI series, while Ishan Kishan has made a comeback.
