Shubman Gill will lead India in the two-match test series against the West Indies.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday, 25th September, announced the Indian squad for the test series against the West Indies Cricket Team. The two teams will be locking horns with each other in the two-match series, beginning on 2nd October in Ahmedabad.
The Indian squad for the test series against the West Indies will be captained by Shubman Gill, who had a terrific time with the bat and as a leader in the England series. Ravindra Jadeja has been appointed as vice-captain of the side, while Karun Nair, who made a comeback after more than seven years in the England series, has been dropped after failing to impress with the bat.
In his absence, Devdutt Padikkal, who shone with the bat in the unofficial test series against Australia A has been added. The left-hander was part of the Indian squad for the series against Australia last year but missed the England series due to an injury he sustained during Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
One of the notable absentees from the Indian squad for the West Indies series was Rishabh Pant. The keeper-batter is still recovering from the toe fracture sustained during the Old Trafford test against England. He is currently at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru undergoing rehab.
Dhruv Jurel is the first-choice keeper in the side with N Jagadeesan being the backup. The rest of the batting department is the same with Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan forming the core.
Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar and Axar Patel, are the spin-bowling all-rounders and will be joined by Kuldeep Yadav, who is the frontline spinner in the side, while Nitish Kumar Reddy is the seam bowling all-rounder. Jasprit Bumrah will lead the fast bowling attack, which features Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna.
This will be the first series for India at home in the new edition of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC). They drew the series against England and would be keen to add important WTC points under their belt. After the first test ends on 6th October, the second game will begin on 10th October at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
