Watch: India U19 skipper Uday Saharan involved in an ugly spat with Bangladesh players during U19 World Cup 2024

India U19 skipper Uday Saharan scored 64 runs against Bangladesh in the U19 World Cup game.

U19 India team are taking on Bangladesh U19 at Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein in their campaign opener. India U19 side looked struggling against Bangladesh bowlers and scored 251 runs in 50 overs. Bangladesh managed to get seven Indian wickets in the first innings, opener Adarsh Singh and captain Uday Saharan were the only two batters to put on a challenging effort with the bat.

Indian skipper Uday Saharan was also involved in a spat with Bangladesh players during India’s innings. This reminded of ugly scenes happened after the end of U19 World Cup finals in 2020 played in South Africa. Captain Uday Saharan had a heated argument with Bangladesh spinner Ariful Islam.

Here’s what happened

This incident happened during second delivery of the 25th over. India U19 skipper Uday Saharan played a paddle against one of Ariful Islam’s full delivery and ran for a single. While approaching non-striker Ariful Islam fired a few words against Uday. Indian skipper didn’t back down and gave a reply. Things went ugly when two of Ariful’s teammate also accompanied him in the tussle.

Uday Saharan didn’t back down and he looked unfazed. Umpires had to come in between and cool things down. They had a long chat with Bangladesh players especially Ariful Islam and later turned to Uday Saharan for a warning. Things didn’t look well enough between the two young sides.

India need to defend 251 runs to start off with a winning start in the tournament. Opener Adarsh Singh scored 76 runs in 96 balls with six fours while Uday Saharan scored 64 runs in 94 balls with four fours. Avinash (23 runs in 17 balls) and Sachin Dhas (26 runs in 20 balls) took India to a decent total in their innings. Bangladesh pacer Maruf Mridha picked up five wickets.
