“India wants KL Rahul to bat at No. 4,” says former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh

Former India all-rounder opened up on KL Rahul's batting position.

Finding the ideal batting order for Indian team continues to be a hotly contested issue in the ever-changing game of cricket. Yuvraj Singh, a legend of the game, has weighed in on the recent debate regarding India's No. 4 slot and has spoken in favour of keeping KL Rahul in this crucial spot in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023.

The 31-year-old's KL Rahul's comeback to the world stage was nothing short of fantastic. As he scored a century against Pakistan in his comeback game, his bat rained sixes and fours and lit up the stadium. He also did well against Australia in the ODI series at home.

Gautam Gambhir, former Indian cricketer, joined the chorus of adulation, hailing Rahul as the sign of stability in the No. 4 position. And now Yuvraj Singh has joined the discussion in suggesting Rahul needs to bat at No. 4 instead of Shreyas Iyer.

“India wants KL Rahul to bat at No. 4 now. They have to give him 15-20 games in that position. In the Asia Cup, coming back from injury, he scored a 100. On a spinning track [in Colombo, against Sri Lanka, he scored a vital 39 runs. He is looking good right now, so they need to stick with him at No. 4,” the former India all-rounder suggested while speaking to The Week.

“No. 4 Is A Crucial Position”- Yuvraj Singh on KL Rahul batting position

Rahul's bat worked wonders throughout the thrilling Asia Cup 2023 campaign, scoring 169 runs in just three innings at an astounding average of 84.50. Karnataka batsman made an especially lasting impression during matches against cricketing rivals Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Yuvraj, who himself batted at No. 4 in 108 ODIs, understands the gravity of this role.

He said, “No. 4 is a crucial position, especially if the openers get out cheaply. No. 4 batsman needs to have the technique to leave the ball, play the short ball well, and try and create a partnership.”

India are scheduled to begin their World Cup campaign against five-time champions Australia at Chepauk on October 8.
