Five Indian batsmen have scored test centuries at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

The India Cricket Team and the England Cricket Team are among the oldest test-playing nations in international cricket. Both teams locked horns in a test match for the first time in 1932 at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. Over the years, both teams have played over 130 tests against each other.

Out of these, England have won over 50 games, while India have won over 30 encounters. 50 matches ended in a draw. If we narrow down to test clashes between both sides in England, the visitors have won just nine games and lost 37 matches, including 22 draw games.

Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham is one of the popular cricket grounds in England, where the hosts have a dominating record against India as they’ve not lost a single test at this venue. Out of eight tests played between both the sides at this venue, England have won seven, while one match ended in a draw.

Moreover, many Indian batsmen have often struggled to come up with a brilliant batting shows at the venue due to England’s dominance at the venue. In the past, only five Indian batsmen have managed to score centuries at the stadium. On that note, below is the list of test centuries scored by Indian batsmen at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

List of test centuries scored by Indian batsmen at Edgbaston, Birmingham

1. Sachin Tendulkar- 122 (1996)

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar was the first Indian batsman to register a test century at Edgbaston, Birmingham in 1996. During the first test of India’s tour of England 1996, Tendulkar slammed a 122-run knock in the second innings off 177 balls, hitting 19 boundaries and one six. However, India lost that game by eight wickets.

2. Virat Kohli – 149 (2018)

During India’s tour of England 2018, Virat Kohli became the second Indian batsman to smash a ton at Edgbaston. In the first test of the five-match series, the hosts piled up 287/10 in the first innings.

Kohli, who was the skipper of India in the series, slammed 149 runs off 225 deliveries to propel the scoreboard to 274/10. However, his marvellous century went in vain as India failed to chase down a 194-run target in the second innings and lost the match by 31 runs.

3. Rishabh Pant – 146 (2022)

During India’s tour of England 2021-22, the fifth test between both the sides was postponed due to Covid-19 outbreak in team camps and was later played in July 2022. During the encounter, Rishabh Pant slammed a stunning 146-run. The left-handed batsman hammered 19 fours and four sixes during his innings.

With Pant’s heroics, the Jasprit Bumrah-led Indian team posted a mammoth 416/10 in the first innings. They also bowled out England for 284 to gain a massive lead of 132 runs. However, the hosts made a spectacular comeback in the second innings. They bowled out India for 245 and later chased down a mammoth target of 378 runs by seven wickets.

4. Ravindra Jadeja – 104 (2022)

In the same rescheduled fifth test in July 2022 at Edgbaston, Birmingham, Ravindra Jadeja also slammed a century for India in the first innings. The left-handed batter slammed 13 fours to score 104 runs off 194 deliveries.

Hence, Pant and Jadeja played a leading role to help India post a gigantic total in the first innings. Unfortunately, their knocks went in vain as Indian bowlers failed to defend the 378-run target in the second innings. With the victory, England managed to level the five-match series 2-2.

5. Shubman Gill – 269 (2025)

Moreover, Gill converted his hundred into a double and smashed 269 off 387 deliveries in the game with help of 30 fours and three sixes.

His innings helped India post a massive total of 587 runs in the first innings.
