Only six Indian bowlers have registered a test five-for at the SCG, Sydney.

The Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in Sydney is one of the most iconic cricket venues in the world. Known for its favorable batting conditions, the SCG has been a tough venue for India, with the Asian giants winning just one of their 13 test matches there.

Widely remembered among the Indians for Sachin Tendulkar’s 241-run knock in 2004 and Ravi Shastri’s sensational 206 in 1992, the SCG has also witnessed some dominant bowling performances by Indian bowlers.

On that note, let’s take a look top five best bowling figures by Indian bowlers in Sydney in test cricket.

5. Karsan Ghavri – 5/107, 1981

Former Indian pacer Karsan Ghavri picked up five wickets in the first test of India’s tour of Australia in 1981 in Sydney.

Bowling on the first day, Ghavri damaged Australia’s innings, taking 5/107. His wickets included key batsmen like Greg Chappell and Rod Marsh. His performance helped the visitors bundle out the hosts for 406 runs.

India suffered a batting collapse in the second innings, which meant they lost the game by an innings and four runs.

4. Kuldeep Yadav – 5/99, 2019

India left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav recorded brilliant bowling figures of 5/99 in the Sydney test of the BGT 2018/19. After Cheteshwar Pujara’s 193-run knock in the first innings, Kuldeep was India’s star with the ball, dismantling the Australian batting lineup.

Kuldeep’s terrific performance with the ball helped India bowl out Australia for 300 runs. Frequent rain delays on day 4 and 5 caused the test to end in a draw.

3. Shivlal Yadav – 6/99, 1986

Shivlal Yadav’s exceptional spell of 6/99 came at the SCG in the 1985-86 series. After posting 600/4 in their first innings, Shivlal helped India restrict Australia to 396 runs.

He continued his excellent form in the second innings, taking 3/19. Australia mounted a late fightback to secure a draw. Kris Srikkanth was named Player of the Match for his 116-run knock.

2. Kapil Dev – 5/97, 1981

Former India captain and legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev picked a five-wicket haul in the first test of India’s tour of Australia in 1981 in Sydney.

After posting 201 runs in the first innings, India had the challenging task of restricting Australia to a small total in their first innings. Kapil starred for the visitors, picking up five wickets for 97 runs.

Despite Dev’s brilliance, Australia amassed 406 runs in their first innings and eventually won the test by an innings and four runs.
