5. Bishan Singh Bedi – 35 wickets
Known for his bowling discipline, Bishan Singh Bedi was one of the best Indian spinners of the 20th century.
Bedi had an impressive record in Australia: 35 wickets in seven tests at an average of 27 with three five-fors and one ten-wicket match haul, which is outstanding for an Asian spinner in Australia.
Bedi’s most memorable performance in Australia came in the 1977 Brisbane test, where he tore through the Australian batting lineup, claiming bowling figures of 5/55 to restrict Australia to 166 runs in the first innings.
4. Ravichandran Ashwin – 40 wickets
Indian spin-bowling legend Ravichandran Ashwin is known for his proactive bowling approach and variations in his arsenal. Ashwin has taken 40 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 42.42 in Australia so far in his test cricket career.
His most remarkable performance in Australia came in Adelaide in 2020, where he took 4/55 and helped India restrict the hosts to 191 in the first innings.
3. Anil Kumble – 49 wickets
Legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble stands as India’s most successful test bowler with 619 wickets. Kumble had a good record in Australia – 49 wickets in 10 tests at an average of 37.73. Kumble’s impressive numbers in Australia include four test fifers.
2. Kapil Dev – 51 wickets
India’s greatest all-rounder, Kapil Dev has the second-most test wickets by an Indian bowler in Australia. Kapil claimed 51 wickets in Australia at an average of 24.58. His impressive tally includes five five-wicket hauls.
Kapil’s best performance with the ball in Australia came in Adelaide in 1985, when he took 8/106 to help India bowl out Australia for 371 runs in first innings.
He is also the most successful Indian fast bowler with 434 wickets in test cricket.
1. Jasprit Bumrah – 53 wickets
Jasprit Bumrah has the most test wickets by an Indian bowler in Australia, with 53 wickets in 10 test matches at an average of only 17.15, including three five-wicket hauls.
Bumrah’s best performance in Australia came at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in 2018, where he took 6/33 in the first innings to help India secure a dominant 137-run victory.
