Indian Cricket Team will tour England for a five-match test series in June-August 2025.

The much-needed announcement has been made, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, announced India’s squad for the upcoming five-match test series in England. Shubman Gill has been named as India’s next test captain after Rohit Sharma’s retirement, while Rishabh Pant will be his deputy.

After Rohit and Virat Kohli retired from tests, the selectors have picked some new faces to fill the gaps in the batting order. Karun Nair and Shardul Thakur have made his comebacks in the squad, while Arshdeep Singh, Sai Sudharsan, and Abhimanyu Easwaran will hope for their test debuts.

But there are some surprising names that are not part of the England tour. Notably, this is India’s first assignment in the next ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle 2025-27, and India will be looking for a good start. Here we will talk about three omissions from the Indian squad.

Three Indian cricketers who are dropped from India’s test squad for 2025 England tour

1. Mohammed Shami

There was a big noise about Mohammed Shami coming back to the Indian test squad after representing India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He also played some games for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

However, he is not part of the England tour, which was a surprise. Ajit Agarkar confirmed that Shami is not match fit for test cricket, and they want to manage his workload, which is why he has not been picked for the upcoming tour.

2. Sarfaraz Khan

Since India needed someone reliable in the middle order, India had the option of Sarfaraz Khan, who started his test career pretty well. In his debut series, he slammed three fifties in five innings against England.

Sarfaraz also scored his maiden test century in the last home series against New Zealand. But then he was benched in the entire Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 and now dropped from the test squad for the England tour.

3. Harshit Rana

Another surprising omission was that of Delhi pacer Harshit Rana, who made his international debut in all three formats in the last year or so. He made his test debut in the BGT 2024-25 and played two tests and took four wickets. Harshit was pretty useful in the white-ball assignments for India ahead of IPL 2025.

He could have been proved useful in English conditions because of his bounce. But India have gone with other options of fast bowling in Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, Akashdeep Singh, and Shardul Thakur.
