Four Indian cricketers have featured in over 500 international cricket matches.

The Indian cricket team is a major powerhouse in world cricket and has an immensely rich history in this sport. The Asian Giants have produced several legendary players who have improved their country’s status in the sporting world.

When we talk about cricket, India have had a spate of highly talented and skilled cricketers. Some of these managed to feature regularly on the national side for over a decade, which led them to play a huge number of games.

On that note, let’s take a look at the five Indian players who have played most international matches for their nation.

5. Rohit Sharma – 486 matches

Rohit Sharma is one of the greatest openers across formats. Sharma has played 486 international matches so far. The 37-year-old has amassed 19278 runs at a healthy average of 42.93. Rohit has raised 48 centuries and 106 half-centuries till now.

Sharma won the ICC T20 World Cup 2007 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 as a player and then captained the side to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 trophy.

4. Rahul Dravid – 504 matches

Hailed as a true gentleman of the game, Rahul Dravid is one of the most legendary cricketers ever. Dravid achieved many milestones in his illustrious career.

The former captain played 504 matches across formats for his nation. The right-handed batter amassed 24064 runs at a brilliant average of 45.57, with 48 centuries and 145 half-centuries.

3. MS Dhoni – 535 matches

MS Dhoni is regarded as one of the greatest skippers in cricket history, and certainly the most successful Indian skipper in limited-overs cricket.

Apart from his exceptional wicket-keeping and batting skills, Dhoni captained the Men In Blue to three ICC titles: ICC T20 World Cup 2007, ICC ODI World Cup 2011, and ICC Champions Trophy 2013.

Known as ‘Captain Cool,’ Dhoni played 535 international matches, the third-most for his country. The keeper-batter smashed 17092 runs at a terrific average of 44.74, including 15 centuries and 108 half-centuries.

2. Virat Kohli – 536 matches

Modern-day legend Virat Kohli has played the second-most international matches for India. Kohli has featured in 536 international matches across formats so far.

Kohli has shattered and piled up many historic milestones. He has notched up more than 27000 runs in international cricket at an outstanding average of 53.12. The 35-year-old is also his nation’s second-highest run-getter across formats.

In his legendary career, Kohli has won three ICC titles: ICC ODI World Cup 2011, ICC Champions Trophy 2013 and ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

1. Sachin Tendulkar – 664 matches

When you talk about most of the cricketing records, there’s a certain person, who occupies the top spot in many records. It’s none other than Sachin Tendulkar. The Indian cricketing legend played 664 matches across formats during his career, which is not only the most for India, but also across all the nations.

From 1989 to 2013, Sachin played in 200 tests, 463 ODIs and a sole T20I. He amassed 15921 runs in tests, 18426 runs in ODIs and managed 10 runs in the sole T20I he played. He also has most centuries to his name – 100 – in international cricket.
