7 Indian cricketers who received cars from Anand Mahindra as gift

Businessman Anand Mahindra has gifted ‘Mahindra Thar’ car to several Indian cricketers.
Indian cricket team is blessed with several talents in recent times. In last four years, 16 young cricketers have made their debut for India in test cricket. Some of them have become a regular part of the playing XI, while a few are still in contention for the place back in the team.
Cricketers often receive awards and gifts from governing bodies and sponsors when they perform really well on the field. After India’s win against Australia in the infamous Gabba test in 2021, one of the business tycoons of India and owner of automobile company Mahindra, Anand Mahindra gifted some young Indian cricketers cars. He has often gifted his company’s SUV car “Thar” to the Indian cricketers. On that note, let’s take a look at the Indian cricketers who received cars as gift from Anand Mahindra.
List of Indian cricketers to receive cars as gift from Anand Mahindra:
1. Shubman Gill

Indian opening batter Shubman Gill was one among the six Indian cricketers who was awarded Mahindra Thar from Mahindra owner after the Gabba test in 2021. Shubman Gill was awarded the car after India’s historic test series win over Australia in 2021. Shubman Gill played an instrumental role in India’s big win over Kangaroos down under. Gill scored 259 runs in six innings with two half-centuries and a crucial 91 in the Gabba test.
2. Washington Sundar

Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar was also recognised as one of the India’s upcoming star. Sundar was also part of India’s test series winning squad against Australia in 2020-21. He was part of the playing XI at Gabba and played a useful hand with both bat and ball. Sundar was considered an inspiration and was awarded the Mahindra Thar by Anand Mahindra. Sundar picked up four wickets and scored 84 runs in the Gabba test.
3. T. Natarajan

T. Natarajan played just one test match for India and became part of history. Natarajan made his test debut against Australia at the Gabba and picked up three wickets. This performance impressed Mahindra owner Anand Mahindra who rewarded him a Mahindra Thar. Natarajan was part of the six Indian players chosen by Anand Mahindra after the end of India’s historical tour to Australia in 2021.
4. Shardul Thakur

All-rounder Shardul Thakur has played considerable amount of cricket since his debut for Indian cricket team. Shardul Thakur was also included in ‘Rise’ story by Anand Mahindra and he was also one among the six Indian players to be awarded a Mahindra Thar. Thakur also played a huge part in India’s splendid win over Australia in 2021.
5. Mohammed Siraj

Right arm pacer Mohammed Siraj has become one of the finest pace bowlers to play for India. Siraj’s new ball movement has rattled many opponents in the last 10-12 months. Siraj was also on the list of six Indian players who were awarded Mahindra Thar after 2020-21 Australian tour. Mohammed Siraj played three matches in that series and picked up 13 wickets. Siraj has made a brilliant partnership along with Jasprit Bumrah.
6. Navdeep Saini

Just like T Natarajan, pacer Navdeep Saini also played only one series in test cricket for India. Navdeep Saini was also spotted as ‘Rise’ stories in cricket and awarded Mahindra Thar for his magnificent debut. Navdeep Saini has played only two test matches and picked up four wickets in his career so far. Right-arm pacer Navdeep Saini is still awaiting for his second chance in test cricket.
7. Sarfaraz Khan

Sarfaraz Khan is one of the most inspiring stories in Indian cricket. Sarfaraz Khan got the opportunity in Indian team after so many years of good performance in Indian domestic circuit. Sarfaraz Khan had a wonderful debut game against England in Rajkot in February, 2024 and scored 130 runs in two innings. Anand Mahindra offered to gift a Mahindra Thar car to Sarfaraz Khan’s father Naushad Khan after the test match. Naushad is not only father of Sarfaraz Khan but also his mentor and cricketing coach.
