Shubman Gill will lead India in the England test series.
The Indian Cricket Team will commence their journey in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle with an away test series against England. The two teams will clash with each other in a five-match test series, with the opening game set to commence on June 20 at Headingley in Leeds.
The series will conclude in the first week of August. The fifth test will be played at the Kia Oval in London from July 31 to August 4. Following Rohit Sharma’s retirement from tests, Shubman Gill has been appointed as the new skipper for India with Rishabh Pant being named as his deputy.
Notably, India will miss the services of three key players who were part of the previous ICC WTC cycle. Sharma, Virat Kohli, who announced test retirements, and Ravichandran Ashwin, who retired from international cricket. All of them were part of India’s last test series against Australia.
Some youngsters, who impressed with their consistent performances in the domestic circuit, have been named in the squad. While Gill will lead the team for the first time in tests, a few Indian players will tour England for a test series for the first time. On that note, let’s look at six players who will tour England for a test series for the first time.
6 Indian cricketers who will tour England for a test series for the first time
1. Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal is the first player on this list. The left-handed batsman has cemented his place as an opener in the longest format following his marvellous performances since his debut in July 2023.
He averages 52.88 and has slammed four centuries and 10 half-centuries in tests. Notably, Jaiswal has toured Australia, South Africa, and West Indies for test series in the past. However, he will travel to England for the first time.
2. Sai Sudharsan

Sai Sudharsan has been picked in the test team for the first time. The left-handed batsman has represented the national side in only three ODIs and one T20I game so far. He has scored 127 runs with two half-centuries in 50-over cricket. He made his international debut in South Africa during the ODI series in December 2023. His T20I debut came against Zimbabwe in July 2024, but he didn’t get to bat in that game.
3. Nitish Reddy

Nitish Reddy was part of India’s test series against Australia Down Under. He made his test debut during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 and impressed many with his batting, slamming a century in the Melbourne test.
He scored 298 runs in nine innings during the series and was the second leading run-getter for India. Not only this, he also clinched five wickets. Now, he will aim to showcase his skills in the English conditions.
4. Dhruv Jurel

Dhruv Jurel has been included as the second-choice wicket-keeper in the Indian squad. Since Pant is the first-choice keeper and also is the vice-captain now, Jurel is highly likely to warm the bench in the series. Jurel has four test matches in his kitty. He travelled to Australia during India’s last series and played one game there. However, he will step on English soil for the first time with the Indian Cricket Team.
5. Akash Deep
Akash Deep, who is one of the pacers in the Indian team for the England series, made his test debut last year during the England series at home. He will clash with Ben Stokes & Co. once again, but this time in the English conditions, where he hasn’t played as of yet in Indian whites. He has played seven tests so far and accounts for 15 scalps at an average of 35.20.
6. Arshdeep Singh
Arshdeep Singh earned his maiden test call-up after his brilliant show in the white-ball formats over the last three years. The left-arm pacer has featured in 63 T20Is so far and accounts for 99 wickets, which is most by any Indian bowler in the format.
He has also played nine ODI games, where he captured 14 wickets, including a five-wicket haul. Now, he is set to clash with England in his test debut. Interestingly, he toured England for a T20I series during his international debut in July 2022, but this will be the first time he will be there with the the test team.
