Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals defeated Chennai Super Kings by 32 runs.

Rajasthan Royals have convincingly defeated Chennai Super Kings by 32 runs at Sawai Mansingh stadium in Jaipur. Rajasthan Royals with a brilliant spin bowling effort contained Chennai batters and defended 202 runs very bravely. RR won the toss and decided to bat, Yashaswi Jaiswal with an outstanding half-century put RR in front. Jaiswal scored 77 runs in 43 balls. Dhruv Jurel (34) and Devdutt Padikkal (27) at the end made sure CSK get a huge target of 203 runs to chase. Coming in place of Trent Boult, Adam Zampa with his brilliant leg spin put CSK in trouble. Apart from Ruturaj Gaikwad (47) no other batter in the top order could go on to put up a big partnership. Adam Zampa picked up 3 wickets in his 3 overs.

Sanju shifts focus in chasing the target now

Rajasthan Royals got off to a flier, Yashaswi Jaiswal scored his first 30 runs in just 10 balls. Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson was in full praise of his opening batter and said, “I took the chance to bat first, even when we batted, all the youngsters came in and did the job. The mindset of attacking is a nice change. Credit has to go to management and support staff for working with players like Jaiswal and for what the players are doing”. He also talked about RR’s image of defending the total rather than chasing down a target. Sanju said, “We can’t go one-dimensional, if you are playing in Chinnaswamy or Wankhede you should look to chase”. RR lost their previous two games while chasing a target.

Jaiswal credits MSD and Virat for his success

Yashaswi Jaiswal was awarded player of the match for his swashbuckling inning of 77 runs. His inning gave Rajasthan Royals a platform to look for a big score. He has been consistent with the bat for Rajasthan. He said, “I have to go and play good cricketing shots, It’s not just about this season, I have been putting in the effort with the team management and I keep speaking to senior players like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli”. Jaiswal also talked about batting under pressure. Jaiswal said, “I enjoy pressure and want to be there when there is pressure. I was only thinking about keeping my strike rate high, I knew we needed 200 to defend in this wicket”. Jaiswal smashed 8 fours and 4 sixes in his inning of 77 runs.

Dhoni not to pleased with CSK bowling

On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni was disappointed with his bowlers. He said, “It was quite a bit above par. The reason was the first six overs, where we gave too many runs… Even when they were finishing the edges kept going for boundaries. They got par + score and we were not able to stop the runs”. MS Dhoni also heaped praises on Yashaswi Jaiswal and said, “Yashaswi batted well, important to go after bowlers, he took calculated risks. It was slightly easier against our bowlers because we had to assess the lengths. Even then Jaiswal batted well at the top and at the end, Dhruv batted well”. Dhruv Jurel scored 34 runs in 15 balls.
