Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 8 runs to go on to third spot in the IPL 2023 points table.

Lack of support from the Middle Order puts RCB on back foot once again. RCB failed to chase down Chennai’s 228 runs at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on a flat batting wicket. Southern Derby turned into a battle of boundaries between the two teams. Chennai won both of them by one six and 8 runs. A total of 33 sixes were scored in this game. CSK smashed 17 while RCB smashed 16. In a high scoring game, Chennai had a little scare when Glenn Maxwell (76) and Faf du Plessis (62) were batting. Their partnership of 126 runs in 10 overs for the third wicket gave RCB hope and a scare for CSK captain MS Dhoni. As soon as CSK sent Maxwell back, they had control of the game back in their hand.

IPL 2023 Updated Points Table:

Chennai Super Kings with a close win in a high scoring thriller have jumped 3 places for the 3rd position in the Points Table. Before the game, they were Number 6 with 4 points in 4 games. CSK have now earned 6 points in 3 victories. Royal Challengers Bangalore have moved down one place to 8th in the points table. Mumbai Indians are now 7th on the table. Both these teams share the same points but Mumbai have a better NRR, thus they are one place above RCB.

IPL 2023 Updated Orange cap holder:

Royal Challengers Bangalore Captain Faf du Plessis has got his hand on the Orange Cap after a magnificent knock of 62 runs against Chennai. Before start of this match, Faf was not even in the top 5 list of leading run scorers this season. Faf with his third fifty in the IPL 2023 is now leading the Orange Cap race with 259 runs. KKR’s Venkatesh Iyer is second with 234 runs, while Punjab Kings Captain Shikhar Dhawan is 3rd on the list with 233 runs in 4 innings. Shubhman Gills is 4th and David Warner is 5th in the Top 5 leading run scorers with 228 runs each. Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad also had an opportunity to go to the top but they failed.

IPL 2023 Updated Purple cap holder:

Purple Cap did not see many changes in the Top 5. Chennai’s Tushar Deshpande with his 3 wickets spell against RCB entered the top 5 list with 10 wickets under his name. He is currently 5th on the list. Royals Yuzvendra Chahal is leading the race with 11 wickets. Mark Wood is second, he also had 11 wickets under his name. Gujarat Titans Rashid Khan also with 11 wickets is 3rd in the race. Titans' pacer Mohammed Shami with 10 wickets in 5 games is 4th on the list.
