IPL 2023 Updated points table, Orange cap & Purple cap after Match 30 & 31, LSG vs GT & MI vs PBKS

Gujarat Titans defeated Lucknow Super Giants in the first game, while PBKS came on top of MI in the 2nd game on Saturday's double-header in the IPL 2023.

It was a day of two contrasting games yet thrillers for the IPL fans. The First game of the day was a low-scoring thriller at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Then in the night, fans witnessed a high-scoring thriller at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Punjab Kings, in good batting conditions, defended their total of 214 runs against Mumbai to give them a reality check after a hat-trick of wins. Punjab defeated Mumbai Indians by 13 runs. While batting first, Punjab scored 96 runs in their last 5 overs to put up a big total. Captain Sam Curran (55) with a fifty and Jitesh Sharma (25) with a 7-ball cameo did not let MI take control of the game. MI top order did try their best to chase down the totals but Punjab’s Arshdeep had different plans. Arshdeep with two wickets in two balls in the final over finished off the game for Punjab. He conceded only 2 runs in the final over. For Mumbai, Rohit (44), Cameron Green (67), and Suryakumar Yadav (57) tried to chase down Punjab's mammoth total.

In the afternoon game, Fans witnessed a low-scoring thriller. Lucknow Super Giants after being in a winning position, crumbled against Gujarat Titans. Batting first, Gujarat Titans put up a total of 135 runs. Chasing 136 Lucknow had a wonderful start. Opener KL Rahul and Kyle Mayers (24) added 55 runs for the first wicket and then Rahul with Krunal (23) added 51 more. They were cruising for a victory with 31 runs required in 6 overs. Krunal's wicket in the 15th over changed the game. KL Rahul after a good inning, crumbled against Titans bowlers. Rahul scored only 10 runs in 16 balls after the 15th over in a run chase. Ultimately they could only score 128 runs and lost the game by 7 runs. KL Rahul played a knock of 68 runs in 61 balls.

IPL 2023 Updated Points Table:

Punjab Kings with 13 runs win against MI, have now jumped up to 5th place with 8 points in 7 games. Mumbai Indians are currently 7th in the points table. Lucknow Super Giants had a golden chance of going to the top of the table, but Captain KL Rahul panicked in 30 runs in 36 ball chase at the end. Gujarat Titans with a close win over Lucknow Super Giants earn 2 points to keep themselves in the Top 4. Lucknow after a loss stayed in 2nd place in the Points Table. Rajasthan Royals with 8 points in 6 games are at the top. Delhi Capitals with only one win in 6 games is at the bottom.

From Saturday’s doubleheader day, Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul has made his entry in the Top 5 list of leading run scorers in the IPL 2023. Rahul with 68 runs inning has jumped to 4th place from the 13th. Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis is still leading the Orange Cap list with 343 runs in 6 innings. Delhi Capitals' captain David Warner is 2nd in this race with 285 runs in 6 innings, Warner has scored 4 half-centuries in 6 innings. Virat Kohli is 3rd in the race with 279 runs. Chennai’s opener Devon Conway is 5th on this list with 258 runs in 6 innings.

IPL 2023 Updated Purple cap holder:

Punjab Kings pacer Arshdeep Singh has earned the Purple Cap with his match-winning 4-wicket spell against Mumbai Indians. Arshdeep in his 4 overs conceded 29 runs to pick up 4 wickets. Arshdeep defended 16 runs in the last over against MI,  gave only 2 runs, and picked up 2 wickets. He now has 13 wickets under his name. RCB pacer Mohammed Siraj is 2nd on the list with 12 wickets. Gujarat Titans leggie Rashid Khan is at 3rd place with 12 wickets. Lucknow’s Mark Wood is 4th with 11 wickets and Yuzvendra Chahal is 5th with 11 wickets. 

What's in IPL or Sunday?

It will be a double-header Sunday once again in the IPL 2023. In the first game, Rajasthan Royals will be taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. After this, the action will shift to the east at Eden Gardens where Kolkata Knight Riders will clash against Chennai Super Kings. Rajasthan Royals will be looking to better their pole position at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. On the other hand in the second game, Kolkata Knight Riders will be looking to get the momentum to stay in the race for Playoffs.
