IPL 2024 auction: Shardul Thakur returns to CSK; Loses 6 crores

Shardul Thakur, the dynamic Indian all-rounder, has been a consistent force in Indian cricket team for nearly 3–4 years, showcasing his skills in both ODIs and test matches. Known for his ability to pick crucial wickets when the team needs them the most, Shardul has proven to be a valuable asset with the ball. What sets him apart is his knack for contributing valuable runs down the order, adding depth to the batting line-up.
His remarkable presence in the lower-order has often turned the tide in India’s favor. A versatile player, Thakur’s performance has been a testament to his all-round capabilities, making him a dependable choice for team management. He was part of Indian squad in recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Shardul Thakur sold to CSK
Indian bowling-all-rounder Shardul Thakur entered the IPL 2024 auction at a base price of 2 crores, and he got sold to CSK for a whopping price of 4 crore. There was bidding war between SRH and CSK. He was bought by Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2022 auction for 10.75 crore and was traded to KKR ahead of the 2023 season for same amount. Now he returns to his old franchise CSK for 4 crore. In the turn of events, he lost 6.75 crores from his salary cap.

Shardul Thakur’s journey in Indian Premier League (IPL) has been nothing short of intriguing. He entered the league in 2015 with Kings XI Punjab. Making his debut against Delhi Daredevils, he immediately showcased his bowling skills by taking a wicket in his first match.
Over the years, Thakur’s IPL career has seen him don different jerseys. He joined Rising Pune Supergiants for the 2017 season and later joined Chennai Super Kings in 2018.
In the 2021 season, Thakur emerged as the leading wicket-taker for Chennai, claiming 21 wickets. His consistent performances earned him a move to Delhi Capitals in 2022 before being traded to Kolkata Knight Riders in a high-profile deal of ₹10.75 crore (US$1.3 million) for the 2023 season.
