IPL 2024 Auction: Teams to have a purse of 100 crores - Reports

IPL 2024 auction is likely to take place in third week of December in Dubai.

The upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) auction in December is likely to be held in Dubai. It will be the first occasion that the IPL auction will be held outside India. Teams have begun their preparations for the upcoming IPL 2024 season. All the franchises will have a deadline till 15 November to submit the list of their retained and released player lists. With a new season, There will be a major change in the IPL auction as well.

Increase of 5 crores in purse

According to a few reports, All the 10 franchises will see an increase in their purse for the upcoming season. The new season might see an increase of 5 crores increase and teams will have 100 crores to spend to build their team. Earlier, teams had 95 crores in their purse to spend on players. This will increase competitiveness among the franchises and a few players will get a bigger than expected amount in the Auction. 

This will be a mini-auction and historically it has been proven that IPL has seen the most expensive buys during the mini-auction. IPL mega-auction will be held next year in 2024 when teams will head on to the IPL 2025. English all-rounder Sam Curran became the most expensive player in IPL history with Punjab Kings bidding 18.5 Crore rupees during IPL 2023 mini-auction. Chris Morris also got a big salary in the mini-auction. 

Remaining purse for the teams

Currently, Punjab Kings have the largest purse at present with 12.20 crores while Mumbai Indians have the smallest at only 5 lakh Rupees. Sunrisers Hyderabad have 6.55 crores, Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals both have 4.45 crores, Lucknow Super Giants have 3.55 crores, Rajasthan Royals have 3.35 crores, Royal Challengers Bangalore have 1.75 crores, Kolkata Knight Riders have 1.65 crores and defending champions Chennai Super Kings have 1.5 crores left. 

IPL 2024 mini-auction might be held on 18th or 19th December in Dubai. The final decision is yet to be taken and soon the IPL Governing Council and BCCI will be deciding on the final destination. The Women's Premier League auction will also be held in December and the WPL Auction will likely be held on 9th December in India. WPL’s second season is likely to begin in February, one month before the IPL 2024.
